Hello!

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

(July 2020) Welcome back to all my old patients, and a very warm welcome to you if you've never been to me before. This is my first ever blog post so please forgive its lack of sophistication.

I wanted to talk about energy healing and it's place in today's world. My old patients will be familiar with cranial/craniosacral techniques which I have used in the past. I've increased my repertoire of techniques to include Reiki and Rahanni energy healing as they can address the more subconscious and emotional blocks to recovery from recalcitrant issues. They are also just very relaxing and enjoyable treatments to have as a treat!

Over the last few decades, there have been more research institutes set up which are dedicated to the scientific exploration of energy healing and other types of alternative therapies. This is in part because of the huge influence that pharmaceutical and agricultural companies have over scientific research in developed countries (I'm not a "big pharma" conspiracy theorist, this is observable fact and my experience of research as a Biochemist). The result has been a steady flow of research demonstrating the efficacy and mechanisms of energy healing. If you are science-minded I would recommend James L. Oschman's book "Energy Medicine the scientific basis" (Churchill Livingstone). I intend to write a more detailed blog in the future about the physiological basis of energy healing, but for now I want to address why it's important right now, during the covid pandemic.

We are all stressed, and have been for months. In Britain, at the start of the "proper" lockdown, where we could only go out for essential items and exercise, I loved it. We are lucky to live somewhere fairly rural and peaceful, and the empty roads and skies were bliss. I continued to volunteer with a homeless charity (Caring for Cambridgeshire's Homeless) and that felt good. But all good things come to an end and when lockdown was lifted, a weird energy infected us all and life hasn't been the same since. No-one knows how to act, who to trust, what it's ok to say or do. People are on a hair trigger, unable not to react, unable to empathise, uncertain of who to trust. We are exhausted, stressed, angry and want control and safety, and that can be got by being right or winning an argument. We turn to social media to see what friends are up to, to have a laugh, forgetting that we are all exhausted, stressed, and dealing with grief, both from the loss of lives of people who've died during the pandemic and the loss of normal life itself, as well as the loss of certainty of the future. There seems no way out. And worst of all, it feels like going for a manicure, or to get your hair done, or whatever little luxury you used to enjoy, might just be a bit unnecessary and a bit selfish. So why on earth would you come and see me!?

Well, whilst my treatments are relaxing and enjoyable, they also help you to recentre, rediscover yourself and recharge your energy. They also alleviate the signs and symptoms of stress, and help us process events on a physiological level. In short, they help you let go and move on with life. They also help you sleep better and have more focus. They are not superficial niceties, but actual healing techniques that have a positive impact on your health. If you are feeling empty, like you can't keep going, stressed, anxious, exhausted, achey, then I can help. Just call, and we can talk through what you need.
